Omaha and a Puppy

from tribefan9. 3 November 2008, 19:19.

Sorry for the lack of blogging, my poker stories are pretty boring compared to the other folks playing tournaments and traveling around the world. I have been playing a lot at the Commerce, and doing well there. The high limit area has been quiter than usual, I think the economy has made a lot of people think twice about playing. As far as online play, I have pretty much stopped playing limit hold'em and focused my efforts on learning Limit Omaha/8. I was seeing the hold'em games get worse and worse, so I was really just wasting my time spinning my wheels online.

Like Tarzan

from tribefan9. 28 August 2008, 14:14.

Things have been pretty swingy for me lately. In the last week I have had my biggest one day win ($8200) and second biggest one day loss (-7500) in the 60/120 game at the commerce. I have had bigger days in bigger games, but probably not in bets. All of this happened as I have been focusing on changing my play to reduce variance some by trying not to put as many chips into pots and not going after as many unwinnable pots.

July Review

from tribefan9. 4 August 2008, 16:16.

July was a frustrating month for me since I lost online. On the bright side, I ran pretty hot in the live games and was still able to profit overall. I don't feel like I played very well and was really just going through the motions. I think a part of the problem was too much time traveling for weddings and whatnot, I really couldn't get into a rhythm. Hopefully August will be better (it looks like it so far). I hope everyone else in pokersavvyplus world has a great month!

Vegas Recap

from tribefan9. 18 June 2008, 4:04.

Well, I am back in LA now. Vegas was fun, played in two of the limit events, unfortunately did not get hot enough to cash. Fortunately I was able to pay for the buyins and the travel expenses with winnings from the cash games. Anytime I can get out of vegas with more cash than I came with I am pretty happy. I think my biggest gambling loss for the trip was in credit card roulette, I ended up sponsoring a nice meal with a group of friends.

Limit Tourney Action

from tribefan9. 6 June 2008, 22:22.

Another disappointing tournament outing for me today in the $1500 limit holdem event at the WSOP. I repeated my typical performance of winning a bunch of hands in the first couple rounds then going ice cold. Overall I am happy with the way I played today, I just can’t get the timing down. You really need to win hands at each level to survive limit tournies. I thought the structure was good with 3000 chips to start and hour long levels. The field was very strong, many of the top limit pros from around the country were in town for the event.

Running Hot

from tribefan9. 2 June 2008, 2:02.

I keep track of poker winning in two week blocks, and the one that just ended was the highest of my career. I did well online and have been smoking the games at the Commerce. Crushing the live games was the point of moving out west, I am glad to see it all coming together. I feel my game is very strong right now and I am ready to take on a couple of the limit WSOP tournies in vegas. I will be playing in the $1500 event on June 6 and the $2000 event on the 9th. Wish me luck!

Badugi!

from tribefan9. 23 May 2008, 14:14.

Things have been going well for me lately. I have finally started to string together some nice wins live and online. The games have been great at the commerce, and it has been nice to see a resurgence of the 30/60 and 50/100 online. I don't typically enjoy playing poker, but a couple nights ago was an excepton. I was playing 60/120 at the commerce, and the must move game started to get short-handed. The lineup was pretty tough, so no one was all that interested in playing. We ended up converting the game to 20/40 mix and played Omaha and Badugi.

Stucksville

from tribefan9. 5 May 2008, 18:18.

Last night I spent most of my time in the 60/120 game at the Commerce. It was one of those sessions that reminds me what it takes to be successful playing poker for a living. I was stuck about 5k early on and slowly grinded it back up (with a little heater mixed in) and ended up winning 2k. The results are pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things, poker should be viewed as one long session and todays win or loss is not all that important. What is important is that I had the ability to keep playing well and making good decisions even when I was buried.

Moving Day: The Sequel

from tribefan9. 13 April 2008, 23:23.

I finally got the keys to my new house today, so the loooong six weeks of traveling, moving, and living in a bunch of hotels will finally be over tomorrow as all my junk gets hauled to the new place. I have found some time to play at the Commerce here in LA, and I am really happy with my game right now. I have been running good, which is always nice, and have won eight of my ten playing days since getting into town.

Twilight zone

from tribefan9. 28 March 2008, 23:23.

So, after a whirlwind of packing, moving details, and traveling up and down the east coast to see friends and family, I have finally made it out to LA. I found a great house to rent and even found some time to get down to the Commerce to check out the action. The poker gods even rewarded me with a nice "welcome back" winning session. The amazing thing about casinos is that nothing ever changes. I have been away for about two months and as soon as I walked in the place, it seemed as if nobody had moved. After I convinced myself that I was in some type of strange time warp, I finally found one thing that had changed, the urinals in the bathroom by the high limit section now have automatic flushers.
