Poker Journal Day 8

Day 8, March 3rd: Registered everything between noon and 3pm today, and added the turbo $50 rebuys on Tilt at 3:30. Accumulated big stacks in pretty much every major tournament of the day: UB $500, Stars $100r 6 max, Stars $150 (oh Lord the stack I had at one point, 52k at 150/300 after coolering half the table in one hand), Tilt $150. All for naught unfortunately, as each one melted away or suffered some horrific fate, though I don't care to bitch about specific beats in an entry. I'd rather focus on the interesting hands of the day:

The first is a fascinating hand from the Tilt nightly $150, which I posted on 2+2 as follows:

Villains are unknown except the guy on my left, who I have a read as being a bit floaty/bluffy from an earlier hand but I doubt that would mean much in a 4 way reraised pot. How much do you weigh the SB's tiny reraise towards AA/KK as opposed to AK?

Pre Flop: (t75) Hero is MP1 with J J
UTG calls t50, 1 fold, UTG+2 raises to t150, Hero calls t150, MP2 requests TIME, MP2 calls t150, 2 folds, SB raises to t400, 2 folds, UTG+2 calls t250, Hero calls t250, MP2 calls t250

Flop: (t1700) J K A (4 players)
SB checks, UTG+2 checks, Hero bets t1000, MP2 raises to t2800 all in, SB raises to t5150 all in, UTG+2 folds, Hero...

Every response I got said a reluctant fold, which I was happy to hear as it was the same thing that I did.

The second was a hand played against Brsavage in the Tilt $1000 which I posted as follows:

Just like the title says. We'd been on the same table quite a bit, I'd been fairly active opening, I believe he had 3 bet me once in moderately recent memory. The guy between us 3 bet me with some regularity too.

I just can't see folding flop to Br. He does so much weird stuff and I think with all his good pairs pre he 3 bets me, like everything 77+ maybe even a bit more wide, so I don't see many of those hands getting to the flop this way then checkraising.

I'm not sure much worse calls on the river, but I'm pretty sure we have the best hand like every time so we might as well give him the chance to decide that's the perfect bluff card and I'd go for it and hero call me.

Thoughts?

The next hand is simply nice to look at. It's the aforementioned super cooler in the Stars nightly $150. I had actually flatted aces for a very nice sized pot the same orbit. I guess this is how nits like me get a stack:

Sweeeeeeeeet.

Next hand is from the UB $500. We're 7 handed so I guess he could be 3 betting me light here, but I'd been very inactive lately and there was zero history for the moment. I think we certainly can't fold. The other problem is I think that if we shove he can call pretty much perfectly against our range (namely, QQ+/AK which we have 40% equity against, and if we add JJ it leaps only to 47%.)

On the flop I think check raising isn't good and check calling sucks because there are a so many cards that make our lives miserable especially with him having position. I don't like folding much either, but in this case I think it's the lesser of 3 evils. Thoughts?

The last hand is also from the UB $500, which I posted on 2+2 as:

One more hand from the UB $500. We're 8 handed and I'm essentially opening in MP2 which I feel is standard. No history with this villain, I hadn't been too active lately.

I think that given stacks being slightly over 30 BB's, when I bet the flop and he calls I'm more likely to connect with a scare card than his range because if he had a draw of quality he'd probably just raise flop and get it in, especially if he thinks I'm sometimes C betting air (which I am here.) I also think he's raising two pair/sets on this flop so I'm guessing a lot of the stuff peeling is mid pairs looking to evaluate turn When the turn pops up I'm thinking we got our ideal bluff card. Thoughts?

Once I get some feedback on those I'll post about it. In other news, I'll be leaving on March 10th for New Zealand and staying there nearly three weeks in Nelson. I've been asked by ELKY and Lee Nelson (town not named for him) to come down to Lee's new health retreat and work heavily on ELKY's upcoming book which Lee is coordinating, and even though I had planned to mostly grind online poker during this period that seemed like an opportunity too good to pass up, especially when I've been in a heavy poker mind set lately.

Also uploaded a new video to Pokersavvvy, one I made last night reviewing the hand history of the Stars $109 turbo win from earlier in the week. I brought out pokerstove often during the video and looked over the math on ranges and got all nity about percentages.
