In hold'em, it's possible to develop a programmatic approach to pre-flop play. Some writers have created grids and hand groupings that denote what hands are playable in what positions. But no such guide exists for post-flop play. After the community cards have been placed on the table, you have to do your best to analyze the situation and make quality decisions based on the available information.

In the following pages we'll present a series of scenarios and describe the thought process that can lead you to reasonable course of action. By the end of the exercises you should have a good idea of factors you'll need to consider before you make a play.

If you're new to hold'em, you might want to try some play-money games at Empire Poker before risking cash. With the information in this guide and some practice, you'll have a solid foundation for making quality decisions.

Try out some easy post-flop strategy exercises.
