Yhteenveto (Rated 6 out of 10)
With the poker boom persisting and online poker popularity following suit (excuse the pun), sites like Sun Poker are good examples of the industry’s evolution. This is not because Sun Poker is a shining light (again, excuse the pun) of innovation, rather it is because, despite being a site which is rather standard, it is still a very capable and enjoyable place to play poker.

Game selection at Sun is a perfect example of this. Whilst lacking a lot of imagination and many of the varieties available elsewhere, there are still plenty of options for the standard poker player. There are several cash game alternatives including limit, pot limit and no limit hold’em, 7-card stud, and Omaha, as well as plenty of one table sit-and-go action and a whole host of satellites. One unique aspect of their games is that each of them is available in a choice of currencies, including the US Dollar, the UK Pound and the Euro.
While the standard online player will likely find Sun Poker adequate, many will find its game selection a bit limiting. One such player is the very low-limit player or beginner, with cash games stakes generally only going as low as 25c/50c and tournament play not offering much in the way of freerolls or $1 games. In fact, there are slim pickings for very high rollers as well with 150/300 UK Pounds about the highest cash game available, and only very occasional big buy-in tournaments. Although, we should note that there are a couple of $15,000-and-up games taking place in 2007 – perhaps a tad longer than most like to wait – but perhaps a signal that Sun plans to increase its attention to the whale crows. A slightly more pressing oversight though, is the restriction of all sit-and-go games to single tables, therefore missing some of the most popular game formats.

The quality of player at Sun Poker is quite diverse, drawing a good number of high standard players from around the world but also plenty of weaker players. This, in one sense, is a strength, with a representative range of opponents to play, thereby allowing for the various gears necessary in any good player’s game to be kept tuned-up, particularly for anyone planning to play in live tournaments where this range of players will undoubtedly be faced.
Due to the availability of games in different currencies there is the fairly unique opportunity of pitting yourself against an international choice of players, particularly European. Many people will find this to be an enjoyable extra, especially the more chatty among us, though it does not generally affect the standard of player. The diversity in player quality at Sun will likely keep both you and your bankroll off balance but at least you’ll soon be able to curse your luck in several different languages.

Software is another example of an area which, despite being far from the top of the industry, is still of a high enough standard so as not to cause many significant issues for any user. The download process is somewhat slower than that of most other sites but not enough so that many letters of complaint will be penned, while quickness around the site itself is similarly sufficient. It is simply the lack of extras and imagination which really holds this site back, with nothing outside the industry standard provided, except for maybe their decent ‘log viewer’ capability for past games in which you were involved.
In saying that, it must be pointed out that a lack of the exceptional does not mean that Sun Poker is not a very adequate room to play in. Online help, tournament and player information, as well as cashier security and options, are industry standard and therefore as good as is necessary. In-game play is similarly so, with well organized tournaments, smooth and efficient game-play, and no major glitches or flaws. There is also the added bonus / massive irritation of an automated commentator who will say helpful things like "dealing flop" or "your turn!". For anyone not wishing to throw their computer out the nearest window, the mute button is advised.

Graphics at Sun Poker are of a similar standard to most other things here, that is, decent enough but not spectacular. The general theme of poker in a tropical setting is colorful and fairly pleasant to look at, though slightly half-hearted, feeling more like the inside of a travel agent’s rather than a Caribbean beach hut. The main interface is usable and simplistic, though some of the colors, in particular the bright yellow used, tend to bleach out a little and may become a problem on some lesser computer screens.
In-game graphics also go for the tropical look, with for example bamboo side-tables and chairs. This is also quite a half-hearted effort at creating this atmosphere and, while it may be realistic, it is also dull. We eagerly await the virtual cocktail waitresses in bikinis. Again, this should not suggest that it is any less playable than the average site as the action and various details of the game, such as chips and cards, are very clear. They also a pretty good range of table options allowing players to change the deck color, re-organize action buttons or manipulate chat possibilities.

Sun Poker is, overall, a relatively profitable online room to play at. This is largely due to their very good bonuses rather than having easy opponents and great playing options. 100% up to $100 on the first deposit is great for anyone most likely putting $50 down initially anyway but it is the further ongoing bonus of an extra $40 per 250 raked hands which is especially impressive. These bonuses will make Sun profitable for most players, regardless of opponent quality.
The average game can be a tricky place to attempt to build on deposits and bonuses as there is a dangerous mix of weak and strong players. For example, it is quite easy to get into a habit of using position and chip stack to bully the weaker players and then fall unknowingly into a trap set by one of the better ones. Having said that, any poker table out there in the real world will contain its mix of sharks and fish, so it’s best to know how to swim with both.

SunPoker - not for me

Too few players, only a handful at limit holdem tables - and the points accumulate quite slow. Savvy points came within 24 hrs after completing the site.

This is another Cryptologic Network poker site. You will earn 850 SavvyPoints after getting 750 Sun "My Poker" Points. You will also earn $150 from their deposit bonus at the same time you complete the SavvyPoints bonus. On top of everything you will get an invite to a $10,000 new players freeroll, so all in all this is a good promotion. Player traffic at this site could be better, especially in the fixed-limit games, it can be bit quiet there at times.
Hard work for your money!

This is the toughest PokerSavvy promotion at the Cryptologic Network. It took me 6,000 hands at $50 max buy-in no-limit games to clear. But, the reward is juicy: $150 deposit bonus and 850 SavvyPoints. I lost about half of this bonus at the tables since I ran pretty bad, but that's poker. There are always bonuses to compensate for the bad beats!

Sun Poker is definitely one of the hardest places to get SavvyPoints from, at least of the ones I've played. I was really frustrated at times because the points were coming so slowly (playing mostly $50 max buy-in shorthanded.) Nevertheless, I held my head up high and was determined to finish and get the 750 points. If you start at Sun Poker, be sure to do so at the start of the month, as the sign-up bonus expires at the end of each month. I didn't realize this and had only a weeks time to clear 1,000 points, which was impossible for me. A few words about the competition... Look for the loose tables and you'll end up earning a lot of cash during your stay here. I got my SavvyPoints in under 36 hours from completion. Thanks!

The Sun Poker bonus was a relatively easy job, even though I play in micro stakes (mainly no-limit Hold'em with a $25 max buy-in.) The offer is generous, in addition to the SavvyPoints bonus a decent sign-up bonus is offered. Playing a few hours per day, it took me about a week to clear the bonus. The only problem was the low amount of player traffic on the network, but by also playing some Omaha I could find just enough tables to fill my screen.

The Sun Poker promo takes some time to complete. It took me about 20 hours of playing four $150 or $100 max buy-in no-limit Hold'em tables. The software at Sun Poker is just average, without an option to change table size. Customer support is helpful and flexible, but a little bit slow.

This room from Cryptologic was like the others... It's easy to get this bonus, you'll quickly clear the requirements and the conditions of the bonus are fair. A must do!
Hard for small stack players.

It takes a long time to clear this bonus playing $50 max buy-in no-limit Hold'em, and even at $100 max buy-in. Their huge tables are not resizable.
Great site to play, bonus moderate to clear.

Like all Cryptologic Network poker rooms, it is difficult to find full ring games. However, the 6-handed low stakes tables are pretty soft, depending on the time and day of the week. The required 750 MyPokerPoints take a while to earn at $25 or $50 max buy-in no-limit, but playing the lowest limits will make you good money all by itself. Cashing out is fast and reliable. The software worked well for me but some people complained about server crashes.
Not the Best Site
Posted Apr 18, 2007 by mimicmimic
I enjoyed the fast play and that was about it. The play was varied but the biggest letdown is that there are never very many players on the site at the same time. This cancels most of the tourneys. Also tried to email support about a possible collusion while playing and they never ever replied to me so that turned my goal into getting the reward and then quickly cashing out.

Nice reload bonus of $100$ every month. The 'One Sick Promo' is good for high-rollers. The players in the No-Limit cash games love to give their money to you!

Sun Poker has a great variety of players. Even though the graphics are not the best, I have seen they are smooth and fun to look at. I myself play no-limit $.15/.25-$.25/.50 and at those tables there are plenty of fish. I can recommend this poker site to anyone , any day, anywhere. One of the best sites there are.
a bit too simple
Posted Jul 05, 2006 by octopus00
I didn't like that poker room because it's slow and i like things that go fast. The cashout is not made for Europeans so u have to pay to change dollars to euro, and it's not that easy to get the required points (though if you play limit hl you can do it with a bit of patience) graphics look oldish but are playable
Sun Poker a good recurring site
Posted Jun 22, 2006 by Falstaff
I love the Crypto sites and have added Sun to my stable of regular sites. I found the bonus very easy to clear (I play 1/2 and 2/4 Limit) and the competition to be VERY soft if you're patient and take time to get to know your table. They also have a monthly $40 bonus for 250 MPPs, with no redeposit needed, so I'm keeping it in my list of sites I regularly play.
Not the Best, but Decent
Posted Jun 02, 2006 by bachandl
I had a little difficulty clearing the requirements for this poker room. What I mean by that is that I probably lost about 15-20 dollars attaining the required points for SavvyPoints. I really seemed to get a lot of bad beats on this site. I am quite sure that my experiences can be explained by bad luck and Sun Poker is a decent poker room. I still came out ahead by playing the site and donaˆ™t regret it one bit.
Sun Poker (Cryptologic)

Well Sun Poker has nice bonuses that were easy to clear with lots of players. I would have given 5 stars but gave only 3 because for some reason people from my country (Finland) can't receive the first deposit bonus on Sun Poker. And that sucks! Otherwise nice site.

Basic cryptologic network place. Good mtt games and small (0,5-1) NL ring games. It is easy to find a table and there are always at least couple of tables open. Sometimes very tight and you need to really know how to play against each player. I think there were a lot of weak-tight players. Bonus is worse, because I didn`t get it because of my home country... :/ Poker manager only can offer it after playing 30 days there.
