Au Texas hold'em,nous pouvons faire des suppositions qui nous permettent de calculer nos chances d'obtenir une carte afin de constituer une main gagnante. Supposons que vous avez Vc-Tc dans un pot ‡ 6 joueurs. Beaucoup de joueurs adorent les V-T suivi ‡ cause du grand nombre de quintes et de couleurs que cela peut faire.

Disons que vous jouez une partie de hold'em limitÈ ‡ $5-$10 sur Party Poker. Personne ne relance au prÈ-flop. Un limper et les deux blinds voient le flop, donc il y a $30 dans le pot.

Pour deviner les chances de faire votre main sur la prochaine carte (le turn) vous devez d'abord compte vos cartes amÈliorantes -- le nombre de cartes qui peuvent vous aider. Combien de cartes amÈliorantes avez-vous ? Supposons qu'avec un total de 6 joueur dans le pot, au moins un joueur a un as ou un roi, vous ne devez donc pas attendre un 10 ou un Valet, ce qui vous donnerait une plus petite paire. En supposant aussi que si vous touchez votre couleur, vous aurez une main gagnante -- personne d'autre n'aura de meilleure couleur. MÍme si ces suppositions s'avËrent incorrectes, vous devez faire quelques estimations pour pouvoir calculer vos cotes.
