ALL TOGETHER NOW!: Part 1

Another good video.I like 2 tables format, because u have more time to explain things in depth, and for novice to SNG like me it is better Smiling I want to ask about your fold with 66 at 9:56 in the video. For me this look like good situation for calling.Your opponent is quite bad and it is his first raise,so I think he probably often will have decent hand.Other players at the table seem competent,so I don't see them squeeze here very often without premium hand, knowing pfr is loose and bad.I am not sure about his stack though. With what stack and how fishy have to be the pfr so that u can profitably setmine with small pocket pairs in this spot?Good luck at the tables, not that u need it Smiling

ALL TOGETHER NOW!: Part 1

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the feedback. For a start, I need to say that I didn't put too much thought into the fold with those 66s, since I was discussing the other table. However, with more time I would have made the same decision again.

Generally I don't like to call raises with small pairs, as stack sizes in SNGs do not offer very high implied odds in raised pots. Small pairs can be profitable, in limped pots, from the blinds, or in multiway raised pots, and especially against fish. For a start, I don't know whether or not the guy is a fish, despite the 67%VPIP (after 6 hands...). Even if he is, I'm probably still folding here. There are many active players behind me, and I haven't seen anyone else act. It's quite possible someone reraises behind me, and also quite possible everyone else folds. Neither of those things I want! I want a cheap multiway pot - and here I have no idea if that will happen.

Second is his stack size. He's only got about 1000 behind, and my odds against hitting a set are about 7 or 8 to 1. (Our pot odds there are not even 2-1). So I need to see 8 times his bet size in his stack right, so I can get paid off when I hit, right? Wrong! People will argue this, but this can only be correct if you double up every time you hit, which is obviously not true. He may have AK and miss. He may have QQ when you hit your set on an AK6 board.

So I usually look for 20-1 stack odds to justify playing a small pair preflop. I will take smaller odds when
a) the player is sooooper fishy
b) there has been a reraise - it's much more likely someone holds a premium hand to pay you off
c) I am getting big pot odds (perhaps 4-1 preflop) - in that case I can accept lower stack odds, maybe 15-1.

Hope that helps,

PezRez
