DONE WITH SCHOOL
from Isaac H. 17 May 2008, 15:15.

Its official. I just checked online, I've passed all of my classes and I'm done. It feels fucking great. In three days I'll be leaving Providence and in 10 days I'll be moving into my new place in Vegas. My girlfriend, Zoe, and I will be driving across the country, stopping for a couple days in Syracuse to visit my family. I'm skipping the graduation ceremony so I can be out in Vegas in time for event 1 of the WSOP (luckily my parents are cool with this and were really not much more excited than me about sitting through a bunch of speeches and reading of names).

I'm gonna be playing WSOP tourneys pretty much every day, I don't have a schedule worked out yet but I plan on playing most of the hold'em events and I'm still undecided about which other games I want to take shots in. I'm really excited, I think live tournaments are really fun. I have no recollection of this, but apparently at the end of WSOP last year I told Zoe that she needed to remind me to take some days off during this year's WSOP because I was completely burnt out by the end of last year's. We'll see how that works out Smiling

On the cash game front, things are going pretty well. I had my first losing month of the year in April, but I've more than made it all back in May. Also, big props to my roommate Scott Seiver/mastrblastr who has been having an absolutely sick year and an unbelievably sick May (especially when I have a piece of him at 50/1 and 100/200 Smiling ). I won't give any numbers without asking him first, but it suffices to say that in his first month or so playing 25/50+ on all his own money he's up about as much as I've won in any comparable period in my 15 months or so playing at the same stakes.

cliffnotes: Done with school, leaving providence very soon, arriving in vegas somewhat soon, can't wait to play tons of WSOP events, running good in cash lately and plan to continue.

P.S. Expect more blogging and more vids as I will have more free time and more to blog about now that I'll be spending my time playing poker not writing papers on the metapsychology of narcissistic rage (this was the actual topic of my last college paper, completed this morning).

Hey Ike congrats on finishing. This is kind of weird asking this on a poker site but I am heading off to Uni in 6 months to study Philosophy and I was wondering if you had enjoyed studying it and would recommend it?

Thx bigjimmylea1:)

Hey jimmy,

Ya, I liked philosophy. The best part is definitely just that it teaches you how to critically evaluate an idea or argument, this is so much more important than any of the various more specific stuff you will learn, IMO. Philosophy of mind was probably my favorite part. I also enjoyed logic, epistemology, and philosophy of science. Ancient philosophy got old fast (see what I did there?). The job prospects aren't so hot for philosophers, but then again who the fuck wants any of the jobs you could get with an economics or computer science degree?

Best of luck,
ike
