hey josh,

at the 40min mark you 3bet a3o vs tagish player. You checked because you thought there was more value in inducing. You then fold to his T+R barrel. If we are going to fold isnt betting the flop better? In villains eyes our check behind must look weak or hand looking to showdown so doesnt it put us in a better situation as you can get value from some PPs and if he calls flop we can safely fold river as if he leads he would never be bluffing

Good question - you must have a great coach!

In hindsight I think its much closer to a call than what I first thought -because he does have quite high cbet and turn cbet stats which lead me to think he is capable of  trying to push me off when I check the flop.

I think I got a little too carried away with the idea that his most likely range here is a Ax or PP and if that is the case then I can never call his river bet.

I also believed that he would not attempt to value bet KK/QQ/JJ/TT type hands - this could have been a mistake given the way the board played out - I think this is probably the crucial decision.

Whether this is the actual case......I still think so, if I believe I can 3 bet him light because he opens wide and folds a lot to 3 bets - then it stands to reason that his most likely range here is Ax or PP so I still think I like my play here.

If his 3 bet calling range was a lot wider than I definitely think its a call - but if he did not fold to 3 bets a lot I would not have 3 bet in the first place.

In terms of betting vs checking to induce - I go back and forth on this and I still think checking back here is correct, pot control is another consideration.

If I bet the flop, get called, check the turn, then I am going to face a lot of river bets and have to play a guessing game - by checking the flop, calling the turn I put myself in the situation that I did in this hand which I think is a lot more profitable.

In a lot of situations people tend to bet the flop too much - which then lends itself to bet flop, check turn, guess river lines, by checking the flop I can play two streets of poker and make the decisions easier and ultimately more profitable.
