Daily Poker Quiz: TPTK w/ Nut Flush Draw on Turn

1 Reviews (Login to Write a Review)

pokertable

The Situation: $0.50/$1 NL Hold 'Em 6-Max online in a typically loose game. It is folded around to you on the button and you raise to $4 with AhJs. The small blind is a slightly loose-passive player. He calls and the big blind folds. You each have $100 in play. There is $9 in the pot.

The flop comes Jh6h3c . It is checked to you and you bet $7 and the small blind calls. The turn is the 3h and again it is checked to you and you decide to bet $14 into a pot of about $22. The small blind check-raises you to $36 total. You have around $75 left behind. With top pair and the nut flush draw, how do you play the hand from here?

I think the key to this hand is our read that our opponent is a loose-passive player.
Such a player is unlikely to flat the flop and check-raise the turn with hands worse than top pair top kicker. The pot is 72$ before our response and we need 22$ to call. This is a situation where our implied odds of making our flush are worth a call. Although we may not get paid when 4 to a flush on the appears on the river board we must remember again, our opponent is loose-passive... a CALLING station. If we miss the flush I'd really lean towards a fold here. There just aren't many weak hands this passive opponent would play so aggressively.
I'm curious to know if anyone disagrees and would recommend a different play.
