Unfortunately, due to the vague and uncertain legal and regulatory environment in the United States, PokerSavvy does not allow United States residents to sign up for SavvyPoints or rakeback offers at real money poker rooms. We regret that we need to do this and hope that the US government will soon clarify the law and create a framework that allows US-based poker players to play the game they love safely and openly. Review of Small Stakes Hold'em by Sklansky, Malmuth & Miller

0 Reviews (Login to Write a Review)

David Sklansky and Mason Malmuth are well known poker players and masters of the theoretical aspects of the game. Ed Miller is a MIT engineer turned into poker pro. In this book they teach you how to win in small stakes full ring (9-10 players) Limit Hold'em cash games with mostly loose players.

It is mainly for players who want to make a profit on small tables in order to learn the game and go up in stakes. It is easy to make a profit on small stakes full ring Limit tables, as it is on no-limit tables, but you need a smaller bankroll in Limit tables (about 200 big bets) than in No-Limit (about 20 buy-in or 1000 big bets). I personally played Limit from a $50 to $200 bankroll when I started playing poker.

As with many other 2+2 books, this one gives you great advice on how to play, but also gives you the theoretical basis to make your own reasonings and deductions.

It explains the key concepts:
- pre-flop play
- pot odds
- implied odds
- drawing odds and pot equity
- protecting your hand
- raising for value
- pot size
- free cards

The book also has a 50 page quiz test. It is very useful in applying all the concepts you've just learned. This is a great book to begin Limit Hold'Em. Reading this book will make you a consistent winner in small stakes tables, (re-) re-reading this book will really teach you how to think about the game and make good decisions.
