Sam Farha busts amateur

This hand really epitimizes the difference between pro poker players and amateurs. The amateur makes a huge preflop raise to 1000 with the blinds at 25/50, because he's just not ever going to be able to get away from pocket Aces. Also notice he's wearing a 'Kill Phil' hat, a book that outlines how amateurs should play against pros (go all in a lot to neutralize their advantage). No pro would ever raise to 20x the big blind with any hand, especially not Aces. Rather they would want action, and also would be able to get away from the hand if the circumstances dictate. Then the amateur proceeds to overbet the flop, betting 6k into a roughly 2k pot.

From Sam Farha's perspective, he knows this guy has a big pair, and knows if he flops a set that he'll clean him out. He has the perfect hand to play in this spot, and he knows he's done with the hand unless he flops a set. Sammy has huge implied odds to call the outlandish bet. The amateur was going to lose a big pot regardless, but he could have easily avoided losing all his chips.
