Choosing which stakes to play at?

When choosing which stakes to play at, I have heard people multiple 300 or 350 by the Big Blind. So if I wanted to play .05/.10 I would need the min of $35 to play this game?

Or do you go by the maximum buy in instead, which would be require $350 to play these stakes because the maximum buy-in is $10?

Now how about if you multitable? Doesn't that effect which stakes you can play at to?

Just wondering for bankroll purposes.

Hi Alameda,

"Standard" bankroll management suggests having ~30 times the max buy-in for you desired limit.  So, if your normal game is NL 10 - you should consider yourself adequately bankrolled with a BR of $300

Multiples of the BB is used for Limit.

Depending on how talented you are, you may want to tweak these amounts.  If your a new player, or someone prone to tilting when you lose - i recommend a larger bankroll requiremnt - may up to 40x the max buy in.  If you are a skilled player, or significantly better than the opponets at your limits, you could drop all the way down to 15x for your BR requirements.

The main goal with BR management should be that you have enough money behind that any individual session won't kill your bankroll - and ideally wont affect your play.

People who play with only 5x the max BI as their bankroll often play as scared money, since losing 1 big pot represents 20% of their overall bankroll.  You won't be able to handle the swings on such a short stack, and can very easily go busto.

If you multi-table - i'd shoot for around 30 still, but it really shouldn't change much.  The fact that your playing more hands just means your getting in more hands / hour.

I think if you study enough of the low limit pokersavvy+ cash game videos, you can get away playing NL 10 and NL 25 with 20x the max BI as a sufficient bankroll - since these games tend to play very easily and rarely will you need to play big pots with marginal hands.

Thanks for the advice. I think I may have to move down in stakes then.

I thought I posted this in the 6MAX forum but I guess I must have misclicked.Smile
