Quiz 2: QQ Facing a Re-Raise

The Situation: You are playing a full ring $2/$4 NL Hold 'em cash game at your local casino. You've been playing a tight aggressive style and you have only shown down strong hands thus far. You have $250 in front of you and you are first to act. Your opponent is in middle position and has about $250 in chips as well. You have yet to play a pot with him, but your initial read is that he is a smart, experienced player who knows what he's doing.

You look down and find:

Queen of HeartsQueen of Clubs

You decide to make it $20 to go, which has been the standard pre-flop raise at the table. The action folds around to your opponent in middle position, who re-pops it to $60. Everyone else folds and the action is on you.

At this point you put your opponent on AK, AA, KK, JJ or maybe 10 10 or 99. Your general sense is that he is trying to end the hand right now, and that he would have raised less if he held AA or KK.

You decide to just call and the flop comes:

King of ClubsThree of DiamondsAce of Spades

Clearly not the flop you wanted to see. There is now about $120 in the pot and you both have $190 left.

You decide to check, and your opponent bets $60, half the pot.

What do you do?

a) fold
b) call
c) re-raise all in

"Easy fold for me"

You are only in front of TT or JJ i dont think he would repop with 99.
I personally reraise with AQ, AK and of course AA or KK
sometimes even with AJs and KQs.
If only one overcard would appear i wouldn lay it down but i think you are behind against the most 3bet ranges preflop.
If im first to act i would bet the flop after a single raise preflop cause scarecards are scary for your opponent too.
But in this case i would throw my hand away pretty quick

"What Actually Happened:"

This was one of those hands where on the surface it seemed like an obvious fold, but the more I thought about it, the more I convinced myself I had him beat. With the A and the K on flop, I ultimately decided it was unlikely he held AK. With his big preflop re-raise, I put him on JJ or maybe 10 10. I also felt that there was a good chance he'd check behind to trap if he had AA, KK or AK. So I re-raised all in, and he immediately folded. When I showed him QQ, he turned over his cards and showed JJ.

"Well that was a good read,"

Well that was a good read, but still i would generally fold this because as mentioned above you only beat TT and JJ, everything else has you crushed...
Still, nice read though =)
