Review of In the Money by Antonio Esfandiari

Antonio Esfandiari's In the Money is the latest installment in the World Poker Tour series of books. While Mike Sexton's book deals with the basics of hold 'em and Erik Lindgren's book is on tournament play, Esfandiari's book is on cash game play. The content in this book will be valuable to players of all skill levels, but there are no new ideas presented. The basic overview of the book is the life story of Esfandiari (which is actually very interesting) and then the moves that he would make given different situations. If you are a numbers freak, then don't waste your time, Antonio's game is about feel and reading his opponents.

There is one added incentive that comes with the book, a dvd of chip tricks. Anyone who has watched poker knows that Antonio is one of the best at chip tricks and he shows the viewers some of the more simple tricks. The book is a quick and easy read, but not in the same league as the Harrington books and some of the Mason/Skalansky groupings. On a scale of 1 to 10, In the Money is a 6. There are much better beginner books out there and this book is not detailed enough to be considered a must read to more experienced players. The book is not very expensive and with the inclusion of the free dvd, it is a very good value. After you have read all of the Harrington and the other 2 + 2 books, In the Money should be at the top of your next-to-read list.
