This was the funniest hand i have ever played in my life. We`ve played sixhanded game, Me, Andy, Kris, Paul, Adam and Marius. After an hour of playing I`ve lost everything i had being a 100% favourite before the flop (of course you can imagine by now what hand i had).
Before I say a little bit about the hand itself, I will provide some background on how the game went before the "crucial" hand so you can understand my play a little bit more. We started playing a home game at about 6pm on a Saturday. Everyone was relaxed and more than ready to play. We decided to play a cash game instead of SNG because those take too long and the first person out usually gets bored to death.
After few hands I could read all of my opponents. Andy was very tight - he won a little because we all knew what he plays and every time he raised we would all fold.
Kris also played safe but he could make some pot steals here and there when he felt others were weak. Paul was the aggressor - that day he would raise every hand 3 or 4 times the big blind, but it didn't always work. He did win some hands this way but he also lost a lot and he finished under his buyin. Adam played aggressive but only after he saw the flop. Before the flop he would just call Paul's raises, even with good hands. Marius, like Adam, was also bluffing some pots. In the start I was also trying to play cautious but the cards weren't going very well for me that night, so I decided that if I don't start making some "moves" I won't win anything. So I decided to change my playing style to be very aggressive. I did steal a lot of blinds thanks to that strategy at first, but then Paul and Adam caught me stealing and would raise me almost every hand.
After about an hour the situation was like this: I once doubled through Paul. Adam and Marius had more money than me because they got some money from Andy, Kris and Paul "the calling station". I was in pretty good shape. I was "on", and the cards started to fall my way.
Then the "HAND" came. We were playing at 0.50/1. I was the dealer and the guys were sitting in the order I`ve mentioned before. Paul raised from under the gun to 4x, Marius reraised to 8x. I looked down to find AA (and I was really trying to get that smile of my face then
. So I reraised to 12x. Paul was thinking for a very long time, and then he said "I don't believe you" and he went all in. I realized he must have some kind of a pair, maybe 8s or 9s (because he said that he has the cards but he's afraid we might catch an Ace or a King). But then it was Marius' turn, he just smiled and called the all-in! After that I really started to wonder what can they have - maybe JJ or QQ and they might catch, but on the other hand I was a 4:1 favorite over any pair so they would have to be extremely lucky. I call and the flop comes 78Q rainbow. I was a little bit afraid about someone having QQ. The turn was a 3 and the river was a 6. Paul proudly presented his KK and was pretty sure that he has it. I was more than happy with showing him my AA and saying an ironic "sorry". But we`ve forgotten about Marius as he was still in the game. I was about to take the chips but he shows QQ.
For a few seconds nobody said anything. Marius was really happy but we all couldn't believe what just happened. Paul started swearing and went for a smoke and I joined him. The worst part is that I was the dealer! I was thinking about that hand for 2 days and I still think about it now while writing this article. I hope you all get more lucky with pocket Aces than me.
