What makes a good Poker Blog? I think there are a few factors. It has to be about poker and it should be updated several times a week. It should include some strategy articles as well as hand histories. There should be posts about the newest laws and their impact on poker. There should be stories about the big Poker events that are happening and the professional players. It is hard to find one blog that entails all of these different aspects of poker. I have attempted to include the 10 best Poker Blogs that I could find that embody most, if not all, of the factors that I think make a poker blog a good read.
1. Tao of Poker – Paul “Dr. Pauley” Mcguire is one of the best known and most prolific poker bloggers. The Tao of Poker doesn’t include much information about poker strategy and how to play the game but it does include some. On top of that, it has scads of information about the biggest tournaments and the best players, all wrapped up with writing that is second to none.
2. Hammer Player's Poker Blog - Hoyazo is all about strategy and hand histories and getting the most out of his game. Hoy is an excellent Hold'em player and his blog is all about trying to help you become adept at Hold'em, also. His strategy posts are well written and he does not cut any corners to put down his views on how the game should be played.
3. Guinness and Poker (aka Party Poker Blog) – Iggy writes what he has deemed 'uberposts' about the poker world that are intended to destroy workplace productivity. Musings, poker news, pictures, you name it, all get thrown into one of Iggy’s uberposts. This blog is not big on Poker Strategy but it does touch on almost all elements of the poker world compiled into a very enjoyable read and fueled by Iggy’s anthem, “Brought to you by Bonus Code IGGY On Party Poker, damnit!”
4. Bill Rini – Bill Rini is a self pronounced semi-professional poker player who has an opinion on almost everything to do with poker today. His blog includes video posts, UIGEA and Neteller updates and has some nice travel posts about the countries to which he’s traveled to play poker. A little short on poker strategy but very long on what is happening in the world of professional poker.
5. Blinders Poker – Blinders is a Poker Blog that has a lot of strategy articles and hand histories to help illustrate his thoughts on how to play the game of poker. He is a prolific writer and isn’t afraid to push the envelope with some of his poker theory. This is a well written, well thought out Poker Blog and should help anyone that is into improving their play. He is also the creator of FantasySportsLive.com.
6. Annals of a Fish Hunter – Jay Greenspan, author of Hunting Fish: A Cross-Country Search for America's Worst Poker Players and editor of Winning Internet Poker for Dummies writes a poker blog that includes insights on game play, strategy, player profiles and the poker culture that we are experiencing today.
7. Lou Krieger - Lou Krieger has written 11 best-selling books and more than 400 columns and magazine articles of poker strategy, and has recently been named editor of Poker Player Newspaper. His blog is filled with excellent strategy articles and his views on the political world as it pertains to Poker today.
8. Hard Boiled Poker – There are a lot of poker players out there that can’t afford to play the high stakes and Shamus is a self-professed player of micro and low limits. He is very prolific, posting on his blog almost every day. His poker write-ups are very entertaining as well as informative.
9. A Tale of 2 Sevens – Scottro has written poker books and is the owner of >i>2 Sevens pokerwear at Cafepress. He has some excellent designs that make perfect sense to the dedicated poker player. What puts him in the top ten are his voice posts. The voice posts are a nice touch and it would be really special if Scottro would expand upon them and include some strategy posts and more of his thoughts on how to play the game.
10. All I Can Eat by Fishy McDonk - The biggest reason this blog makes the top ten is because it has a lot of posts about RAZZ and Stud games instead of just No Limit Hold’em. FishyMcDonk plays a lot and wins a lot but in between the screenprints of the tournaments he has won or final tabled, he has some nice posts about his RAZZ play and HORSE play. The one thing holding this Blog back is the lack of posts.
